Cnews: Bangladesh Women Cricketers are coming back home this afternoon after clinching the first-ever international trophy, the ACC Women’s T20 Asia Cup.
A flight carrying the women cricket team will land at the Dhaka airport around 5:50am on Monday. The cricketers are scheduled to go Hotel Sonargaon from the airport. Nazmul Hasan Papon, the president of Bangladesh Cricket Board will welcome them there.
Earlier on Sunday, Bangladesh clinched their dream trophy in the continental meet, in the process ending giant neighbour India's hegemony in the region by beating the six-time Asian champions twice -first by seven wickets in the league match, and then memorably by three-wickets in a last ball thriller in the final in Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur. Bangladesh could not win any global tournament after the ICC trophy in 1997. However, the women team removed the frustration on Sunday in Malaysia.
Winning the trophy, skipper Salma Khatun said, "We are so happy. We have won Asia Cup for the first time. It's not possible to explain the achievement in words."
"We were confident in the final match. We had nothing to lose. We had many things to get in the match and we got that," she added.
